Principle 01
A result can be provided. Capability has to be developed.
Explanation
A person can receive help that produces the immediate answer while remaining unable to handle the next variation. Capability develops when they understand the reasoning, practise the task and learn to assess their own performance.
Application
In mentoring, ask the person to explain the next attempt and identify where they need feedback. In a team, connect the deliverable with the knowledge and decisions required to sustain it.
Context and limits
Immediate support remains appropriate when urgency, safety or access requires it. Independence can be developed over time.
A question for reflection
What should the person be able to do after the help ends?
